Have you ever sat in meditation around your pet? Well, if you haven't had the pleasure, this is an experience of stillness, calm, paired with your cuddly (or curled up near-by) pet. You may even notice the way your little fluff ball is drawn toward your peaceful energy.
So while I might be a human meditation teacher, offering courses on how to calm the mind, there might be a little ball of fluff in your life that could help you get more out of your meditation at home, and in turn, you can create a peaceful place for your little pet-love to chill out in with you.
By learning to embrace your little furry companion into your daily meditation routine, we can not only find benefits within the practice, we can also change what may have previously been a distraction into a component of your session.
1. Trust
Let's create a place of stability, peace and calm—which can be particularly beneficial for adopted rescue pets. Just as you feel more grounded following your own meditation practice, so do your furry companions. Find a quiet spot where you can practice, and bring/ allow your pet to be in meditation space with you. This can be on your lap or simply just in the same room. As you practice and let your chilled vibes flow, observe if there are any changes in your pet's demeanour.
2. Radiate a stress-free vibe
There are many positive influences of a regular meditation practice, one of which is that your stress response takes a much-needed break. When you lessen the stress response of the body, its natural healing qualities can radiate with you throughout your day. For your furry loved one, sitting along side you during your meditation session is something that may end up being one of your pet’s favourite benefits of being with you.
3. Grounded and present
I'm sure we've all experienced at one point or another the challenge of staying in the present moment during meditation. With your loveable companion in petting reach or just curled up next to you in your space, can be extremely grounding.
4. Align your life
When meditating, you are naturally in a calmer and more passive state. Your energy centre tends to open and realign when you’re in the practice. You and your pet can learn to be in the same calm space and energy together. Meditation helps to deepen the bond and understanding between you and your pet.
5. Thrive with Daily Routine
Instinctively, animals align themselves with the rhythms of nature. A daily routine of being in your meditation space may help your little buddy to stay more balanced. Practicing meditation first thing in the morning is the best bet for committing to a daily routine. Even five or 10 minutes will help start the day with a calmer, clearer mind and an alert, but relaxed body. Set your clock a few minutes earlier each morning, find a comfortable place to sit with your pet, and give yourselves the gift of silence. You’ll be reaping the reward in no time at all.
